Harmony Gold Corp. appoints William J. Burnett, C.P.G. as Project Manager for Lucky Shot Gold Project

 Vancouver, BC, May 18, 2010 -- Harmony Gold Corp. (the "Company") announces the appointment of William J. Burnett, C.P.G. as Project Manager for the Company's Lucky Shot Gold Project located near Wasilla, Alaska. Mr. Burnett has over 17 years of experience in operations and exploration, mine and project management. He has held positions as Mine Manager at the Nixon Fork Mine for Mystery Creek Resources; as exploration project manager for St. Andrew Goldfields, Heritage Explorations, and NovaGold Resources, as well as many other senior positions. For the past year, Mr. Burnett has served as Project Manager for Full Metal Minerals on the Lucky Shot Gold Project.

Mr. Burnett has a Master of Science degree in Economic Geology from Colorado State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from Fort Lewis College and is a member of the American Institute of Professional Geologists.

Mr. Craig Engelsman, President of Harmony Gold Corp stated: "The Company is very pleased to be able to avail itself of Bill Burnett's experience and knowledge of the Lucky Shot Gold Project. We have every confidence that Bill has all the technical knowledge and ability to advance the Lucky Shot Gold Project through to operation".

The Lucky Shot Gold Project is a former gold producer having historically produced over 250,000 ounces of gold at an average grade of 1oz/tonne Au. The Company is advancing the project to production and is currently carrying out the following activities:
  • Upgrading the new geological model/resource estimate to be NI 43-101 compliant, which will also incorporate the 4,776 meters of infill drilling on the high-grade vein structure completed by Full Metal Minerals during Q4, 2009;
  • Carrying out preliminary mine planning and design;
  • Commencing metallurgical test work for data needed for both permitting purposes and refining the process flow sheet design; and Continuing to acquire environmental data (baseline water quality and air monitoring) for production permitting.

Mr. Engelsman stated: "We are very pleased with the advancements made at the Lucky Shot Gold Project and look forward to a very productive summer."
